Hello, my name is Jaxon, and I’m about to tell you about my watershed. I live in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. Regina is the capital of Saskatchewan. First, I will tell what a watershed is. A watershed is an area of land that catches rain then that rain drains into rivers, lakes, wells, and marsh. Marsh is known as poorly drained land. The watershed I live in is the Upper Quappelle Wascana Watershed. That is where my watershed is.
Now I will tell you where my drinking water comes from. The water we drink comes from lots of different places. It usually starts at lakes, rivers, wells, and streams. One of the lakes we get our drinking water from in Regina is the Buffalo Pound Lake. The water is then cleaned. It is then filtered and comes out of our taps. That is where my water comes from.
Why is water so important to me? I love water for simple reasons. Like how you can’t live without it. You can also freeze it to make water colder or put the ice on injuries to make the swelling go down. Another reason it is important to me is that I can swim in it and you can drink it when it’s hot out. My favorite reason is taking showers and baths to clean myself. That is why water is important to me.
Now I will tell you how I encounter water. One way is when I go wakeboarding. Another way I encounter water is when I wash my dad’s car. My favorite way I encounter it is when I have a water fight. The last way I encounter it is when it rains. That is how I encounter water.
My final point is what other things need water? Of course humans need water, but animals also need water. A very special thing that needs water is plants. Plants need water to grow. We also need water to run our industries and generate power. That is what other things need water. Without a watershed we would have no drinking water and plants would not grow. That is why we need watersheds.
